Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has hinted on the talks he had with Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu last season.
The gangling defender joined the “Saints” from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano but it took several months before he started playing as he was not fit.
Southampton acquired Brazilian centre-back Lyanco from Torino in June this year but he is now facing the same problem as Salisu and Hasenhuttl has pointed out that he is having the same conversation he had with Salisu with him.
“He is a long-term project and it always takes time to get adapted to what we are doing. Salisu was injured at the beginning, so it took a little bit longer to get his first step in the Premier League.” Hasenhuttle told Daily Echo
“But now he has shown he is the defender we want to have. I’m very happy to see how he has developed his game, especially with the ball. We have tried hard to develop his game and this is a better package now.”He added.
Salisu has now become a key component in the Southampton team so far this season playing seven league games.
