TV right holders for the Ghana Premier League, StarTimes have pleaded with the supporters of the biggest club in Ghana, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC following a misunderstanding between the Ghana FA, StarTimes and Kotoko.
In the opening fixture of the Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season, the Ghanaian giants were initially denied access to take video footage of their Sunday clash with Techiman XI Wonders by their partners VEO.
This development did not go well with the Porcupine Warriors after the Ghana gave directives to clubs to seek permission from the TV rights holders, StarTimes before they could be allowed to take footages of any Ghana Premier League campaign.
After the FA’s letter to the Premier League Clubs CEO, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC officially has written to the Ghana Football Association to provide them (Kotoko) with a copy of the deal between the both parties.
Nonetheless, the fans of the Kumasi-based club threatened to unsubscribe to the pay per view TV company leading to a response from the Chinese-based company.
StarTimes after hearing and seeing the threats from the fans of the Porcupines on social media and other various platforms decided to calm the fans down before things could excalade as Kotoko’s game remain the most watched match on their app after matchday One.
“We understand the sentiments of all @AsanteKotoko_SC fans but we implore you to stay calm and enjoy the GPL on StarTimes. The @ghanafaofficial will handle the trending issue while we endeavour to bring you the best coverage of THE ONLY LEAGUE THAT MATTERS”, StarTimes tweeted.
