Sudan head coach Kwasi Appiah confident of making impact at 2025 AFCON

Sudan head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has expressed his determination to see the team perform well and bring pride to themselves and the nation ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The former Ghana coach has successfully led the Falcons of Jediane to qualify for the tournament, securing second place in Group F with eight points. Sudan achieved this feat despite playing their home matches on neutral grounds due to the ongoing civil war. Their campaign included two wins, two draws, and two losses.

Speaking about Sudan’s prospects in the competition, Appiah highlighted the team’s ambition and faith. “For me, once we have been able to qualify, there is nothing we cannot do, and I believe with the help of God, we will do well to ensure we do not embarrass ourselves but rather play to honour the country,” he told Asempa FM.

Sudan has a rich history in the tournament, winning AFCON in 1970 when they hosted it. However, they have struggled in recent years, advancing beyond the group stage only once in the last 24 editions and qualifying for just three of them.

The upcoming AFCON will be hosted by Morocco, with the tournament scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Appiah and his team are eager to make their mark on the continental stage.
