The Public Relations Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Patience Mensah, has assured fans that the Baba Yara Stadium pitch will be in excellent condition for the much-anticipated Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
Her remarks come in response to concerns raised after Kotoko’s FA Cup round-of-64 match against Future Stars, where Alex Manu, the Ashanti Regional Circles Chairman, criticized the state of the pitch.
Mensah, however, expressed confidence that ongoing maintenance efforts would address any issues in time for the big game. “We prepared a maintenance plan after the Milo Games, and we’ve been working to restore the pitch to its best condition,” she said during an interview with Max FM.
She further emphasized the pitch’s resilience, noting its previous performance during the Milo Games. “The pitch was in very good condition during the Milo Games, and though defects occur with continuous use, we are confident it will be in perfect shape for the Super Clash,” she assured.
Mensah also highlighted the NSA’s dedication to sports development, explaining the decision to host the Milo Games despite ongoing renovations. While acknowledging the wear and tear caused by the event, she stressed its long-term benefits in nurturing young talent.
Sunday’s Super Clash is set to be a key fixture in the league, with Kotoko, currently seventh with 18 points, taking on sixth-placed Hearts of Oak, who have 19 points. Both teams will be looking to strengthen their bids for the league title.
