Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed is enthusiastic about his loan move to Sunderland from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens, viewing it as a prime opportunity for his development.
Abdul Samed’s decision comes after a season in which his playing time at RC Lens was significantly reduced, leaving him without any appearances this season. The loan move to Sunderland, a Championship side, offers him a fresh start and a chance to regain his form.
“I’m very happy to be here,” Abdul Samed said during his unveiling. “I spoke with the Head Coach about the project and how the supporters love the Club. It seemed like a good place for me to progress.”
The midfielder’s previous season was marred by injuries, limiting his appearances to 39 across all competitions, including the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. Despite interest from several French clubs such as FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne, Abdul Samed chose the challenge of English football as the best move for his career.
The Ghanaian international will miss Ghana’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to fitness reasons.
