Some South African football fans have questioned the call for Lucas to play for the Bafana Bafana.
They believe if he was good enough, he would be playing for the Selecao of Brazil.
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has encouraged his star man to play at a level higher than Sundowns to get the opportunity to wear the famous Yellow and Blue shirt of Brazil.
“I think for Lucas to go to the Brazil national team, he has to prove himself at another level because if you go check the names of the players for Brazil, you’ll see. I went to check where they play, and they play for the biggest teams in the world,” Sundowns Portuguese head coach Miguel Cardoso said.
The 26-year-old Brazilian-born can play across the three forward positions and also as number 10. He will likely win Player of the Season in the South African Betway Premiership due to extraordinary performances in the current campaign.
