Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi has revealed that Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey is set for an extended period on the sidelines due to his latest injury.
Lamptey sustained the injury during Brighton’s game against Nottingham Forest midway through the first 45 minutes.
Speaking in anticipation of their Europa League clash against AEK Athens on Thursday, de Zerbi conveyed that both Lamptey and Ansu Fati would face an extended period of absence.
“We have lost Ansu for a long time. Same for Lamptey, they will be out for a long time,” remarked de Zerbi.
Despite Lamptey’s return from a previous injury setback, he had to be substituted after 35 minutes against Nottingham Forest due to discomfort. This prolonged spell on the sidelines puts Lamptey at risk of missing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old had already missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros due to injury, and he was absent from the team during the October international break.
Lamptey’s recurring injury issues pose a significant challenge for both the Black Stars and Brighton as the season progresses.
