Former Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has raised concerns about the passion and commitment of the Black Stars following their 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana took the lead in the 44th minute through Alidu Seidu, but Niger equalized with 10 minutes left when Oumar Sako found the back of the net. The result leaves the Black Stars in 3rd place in Group F with just one point from two games.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Afriyie-Ankrah expressed his disappointment, questioning the players’ desire to fight for their country. “There is no commitment and passion to die for the country in this Black Stars,” he said in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM.
Ghana’s qualifying campaign started with a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium, and the team has yet to secure a win in their opening two matches. Head coach Otto Addo and his squad will now turn their focus to a crucial doubleheader against Sudan in October, hoping to revitalize their chances in the qualifiers.
The upcoming fixtures will be decisive for the Black Stars as they look to overcome their slow start and climb the Group F standings.
