Joe Nana Adarkwa, the head coach of Apem Darkoa Ladies, commended his players for their exceptional performance in successfully defending their Women’s Premier League title.
In a thrilling match, Apem Darkoa defeated Hasaacas Ladies 5-3 in a penalty shootout to claim their second consecutive league championship.
The first half ended goalless, but Doris Boaduwaa, the leading scorer for Hasaacas, broke the deadlock with a header in the 60th minute.
Apem Darkoa’s Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah equalized in the 84th minute with a powerful shot that beat Grace Banwaa in goal, forcing the game into extra time.
With no winner emerging after 120 minutes, the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Hasaacas’ Success Ameyaa missed her penalty, while Ophelia Amponsah stepped up and scored the decisive spot kick for Apem Darkoa.
An elated Nana Adarkwa expressed his satisfaction after the victory, stating, “We worked hard for this victory, and now it has become a reality. We anticipated a tough game, and as you witnessed, it was indeed challenging.
“However, our players executed our tactical instructions excellently, and it reflected on the field. They performed admirably, and they deserve all the praise.”
As a result of their triumph, Apem Darkoa has secured a spot in the WAFU ZONE B competition.
