Besiktas defender Daniel Amartey has publicly denied accusations made by the club’s spokesman, Hüseyin Yücel, regarding his alleged refusal to transfer during the summer window.
Speaking for the first time since the controversy, the Ghanaian international dismissed the claims as baseless.
“They’re completely untrue. Nothing like that happened. Those allegations should be disregarded,” the 29-year-old asserted.
Yücel had earlier claimed that Amartey rejected several transfer opportunities, including offers from Saudi Arabian clubs and Turkish second-tier side Eyüpspor. Yücel further alleged that Amartey refused to board a flight to Saudi Arabia despite an agreement in place and even “escaped through the back door” after a deal was reached with Eyüpspor.
According to the Besiktas representative, Amartey expressed an interest in moving to Germany or England, even though the transfer window in those countries had already closed.
Amartey, who joined Besiktas last season after leaving Leicester City, where he was a key part of their 2016 Premier League title-winning squad, has struggled for consistent playing time. He made 27 appearances last season but has yet to feature in the current campaign, fueling rumors of his potential exit.
His contract with Besiktas runs until June 2026, but following the alleged rejection of seven clubs over the summer, it is expected that Amartey may reconsider his options in the January transfer window. Despite the strained relationship with the club’s management, the defender remains committed to performing for the team if given the chance.
Amartey’s future at Besiktas, however, remains uncertain as tensions between him and the club continue to mount.
