Former Ghanaian captain Asamoah Gyan has lauded Thomas Partey as a once-in-a-generation talent sorely missed by the Ghana national team.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Gyan expressed regret over Partey’s prolonged absence, attributing it to injury setbacks that sidelined him for almost five months due to a muscle injury sustained in October.
Partey’s absence was keenly felt during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Ghana missed his influential presence on the field. Gyan emphasized Partey’s significant impact on the national team, highlighting his exceptional talent.
“It’s unfortunate that we miss a player like Thomas Partey. He is a generational talent. This year the injuries have slowed him down a little. You can’t blame him for that.
Gyan also addressed the gradual process of returning to form after injury, noting the unfair criticism sometimes faced by players in such situations.
“Even when he comes back it’ll take time for him to get back to his normal level. Sometimes when people criticize a player coming back from injury it’s unfair.”
Since his debut for the Black Stars in 2016, Partey has amassed 47 caps and scored 13 goals, establishing himself as a pivotal figure in Ghana’s midfield.
