UCL Week 2 on Tuesday: Check out how African players performed

Brest had six Africans in their matchday squad with Senegal’s Abdallah Sima scoring brace for the French side against Salzburg in Austria. Malian left-back Massadio Haidara enjoyed 90 minutes for Brest. Mama Balde and Kamory Doumbia of Equatorial Guinea and Mali made a substitute appearances while Salah (Morocco) and Ndiaye (Senegal) were unused substitutes. Ivorian forward Karim Konate started for Salzburg while Malian trio Dorgeles Nene, Yeo and Diambou were on the bench with Diambou playing 14 minutes in Salzburg’s 4-0 embarrasing defeat.

Malian forward El Bilal Toure played 15 minutes for Stuttgart in the 1-1 draw against Sparta Prague. Nigerian striker Victor Olatunji enjoyed 21 minutes for Sparta Praha.

Sharani Zuberu of Ghana played 28 minutes for Slovan Bratislava with Togolese youngster Idjessi Metsoko not making an appearance from the bench against Manchester City. The Citizens smashed Slovan 4-0.

Thomas Partey and Achraf Hakimi started for Arsenal and PSG respectively. The Ghanaian enjoyed 64 minutes as the Moroccan right back lasted the full duration in PSG’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal. 17-year-old Moroccan Naoufel El Hannach was an unused substitute for PSG.

Young Boys faced Barcelona with 7 Africans in their matchday squad. Guinean defender Mohammed Camara scored an own goal for Barcelona in their 5-0 thrashing of the Swiss side. Jaouen Hadjam (Algeria) and Ebrima Colley (Gambia) also started as Chaiwa (Zambia), Elia (DR Congo), Ganvoula (Guinea) and Niasse (Senegal) were all included in the matchday squad.

Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy scored twice for Dortmund in the 7-1 smashing of Celtic. Ramy Bensebaini played 30 minutes in the second half for Dortmund whilst Moroccan youngster Ayman Azhil was an unsed substitute.

Djiga (Burkina Faso), Silas (DR Congo), Olayinka (Nigeria) and Ndiaye (Senegal) all started for Red Star Belgrade in their 4-0 smashing by Inter Milan. Dalcio (Guinea Bissau), Kanga (Gabon) and Milson (Angola) were all on the bench.

Xabi Alonso started Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Adli (Morocco) and Boniface (Nigeria) in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 triumph over Milan. Super Eagles’ Nathan tella didnt ģet any minutes from the bench for the Germans. Sammy Chukueze also sat on the bench for Milan for the whole game.

Ismail Saibari enjoyed 65 minutes for PSV Eindhoven against Sporting Lisbon. Couhaib Driouech (Morocco) and Adamo Nagalo (Burkina Faso) didn’t start for PSV. Diomande (Ivory Coast) and Catamo (Mozambique) both were in the starting line up for Sporting CP in the 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven.
