The Ghana amputee national team, led by the captain, Richard Arthur Opentil, have asked for the media to come to their aid and assist them to secure the needed help to participate in the amputee World Cup.
The amputee team despite winning the Nations Cup in Tanzania and securing qualification to the global showpiece are on verge of missing out on the competition due to leadership disputes with the case being taken to court.
In a video circulated on social media, Opentil pleaded for the Ghanaian media to come to Amputee Football rescue as they risk missing out on the World Cup due to the dispute.
“Amputee football is dying, they are killing Amputee football in Ghana and I want to call on the Honourable Chief Justice, Honourable Minister of Youth and Sport, African Paralympic Committee President to immediate rescue the sports before it gets buried. We the foreign-based players, local players want the Chief Justice to listen to our cry, the case at court is killing the sports, we the payers are suffering, Why are we in court? They are killing Amputee Football, We need the Sports Back!!! We are lucky to have a Sports Minister who is doing well to see our sports developed but some of us are in Court to kill the sports,” he said in the video.
“I want the Ghanaian media to come to Amputee Football rescue, we have qualified for the World Cup but we may not be allowed to attend because of these disputes, As team captain of the National Men’s Team, we have faith in the Sports Minister and the APC President to make sure Ghana gets its glory.”
The World Amputee Football Federation revealed due to leadership issues, Ghana could be prevented from taking part in the World Cup.
