Ghanaian attacker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu netted his sixth goal in the Liga Portugal on Saturday evening away at Arouca FC for Rio Ave in slim victory away from home.
The in-form striker scored the only goal of the match to steal all three points for the away team as they beat their opponents by a lone goal in the Portuguese top flight.
The opening 45 minutes of the match ended goalless though both teams created good goal scoring chances in the first half.
On the hour mark, the visitors were awarded a spot kick which was nicely converted by the striker to give the Green and Whites outfit a 1-0 lead with 30 minutes to play.
Four minutes later, Rio Ave were awarded another penalty kick with Yakubu’s countryman, Emmanuel Boateng stepping up for the kick which was saved by the hosts goalkeeper.
The game ended 1-0 to the visitors who grabbed all three points to move up on the league table with 18 points from 13 games.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian predator finisher has six goals and has provided three assists in 12 games in the Portuguese top flight.
