Ghanaian international Joseph Paintsil showcased resilience and redemption on Thursday night, contributing a composed finish to secure a 2-0 victory for KRC Genk against Cukaricki in the Europa Conference League.
Starting for the Belgian side in the Round 6 clash of the Conference League group stage, Paintsil faced an early challenge when he missed a penalty kick in the opening minutes. Undeterred, the Black Stars forward bounced back with a stellar performance.
Playing a pivotal role, Paintsil played a part in Bryan Heynen’s 21st-minute equalizer, allowing Genk to enter the first-half break with a narrow 1-0 lead. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half, Genk continued to exhibit a strong performance.
In the 57th minute, Joseph Paintsil redeemed himself by scoring, sealing a 2-0 triumph for Genk.
Despite the win, Genk fell short of qualifying for the knockout stage, finishing in third place in the group.
