On Friday, March 17, 2023, the remains of Christian Atsu, a late Ghanaian winger, were brought to the Forecourt of the State House for a day-long funeral and burial ceremony.

Accompanied by military escorts and family members’ vehicles, the hearse carrying the coffin draped in Ghanaian flags was unloaded and placed on the podium for viewing and paying respects.

Notable figures expected to pay their respects included President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, former teammates, and his former school, among others.

Christian Atsu tragically lost his life on February 6, 2023, in the aftermath of an earthquake that caused his apartment in Hatay to collapse. A one-week memorial was held on March 4, attended by former teammates, football stars, and entertainment personalities.

Following the funeral ceremony, Christian Atsu’s body will be transported to his hometown in the Greater Accra Region for burial.
