Amid Asante Kotoko’s poor form in the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League season, the Chief Executive Officer of the club has come forward to defend the players, acknowledging that it is unrealistic to expect victory every year.
After clinching the Ghana Premier League title last season, the Porcupine Warriors were expected to be strong contenders for this season’s championship as well. However, due to the transfer of key players and changes in management, the team’s performance has significantly declined, and they are struggling to secure a top-three position in the league standings.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Nana Yaw Amponsah admitted that things have not gone according to plan but emphasized that such fluctuations are a normal part of sports.
“We will continue to fight until the end. The reality is that we cannot win every year,” he stated.
“Hearts of Oak won the league two years ago, but last season they finished in sixth place. We were champions last year, but this season we are facing difficulties. That’s the nature of sports. Therefore, we will continue to fight until the end.”
Currently, Asante Kotoko sits in sixth place on the Ghana Premier League table, having accumulated 44 points from 30 games, with four more matches remaining in the season.
