TP Mazembe was in the same group as Mamelodi Sundowns with both teams winning 1-0 against each other.
TP Mazembe finished second while Mamelodi Sundowns topped the group. It was winner-takes-all on Saturday in Pretoria as both teams had the same number of points (10) before the final fixture of the group.
Pater Shalulile scored from the spot in the 38th minute to ensure a 1-0 win for the Brazillians.
TP Mazembe head coach, Lamine N’daye, 67, has made it clear that they are ready for every team except Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We don’t care who we face in the quarterfinals as long as it’s not sundowns
“I don’t care, as long as we don’t face Mamelodi Sundowns again in the next round,” said the 67-year-old Senegalese coach.
The former Al Hilal and Horoya AC’s head coach saw how organised the Brazilians were on Saturday as they were completely outplayed even though they lost narrowly.
“No matter the team that we will play in the next round, we will try to do our best and score goals,” added N’diaye.
TP Mazembe will learn their opponents on 12th March at noon GMT in Cairo where the quarter-finals draw will be conducted.
Their possible opponent is one of Al Ahly, Petro Luanda and Asec Mimosa.
