Hearts of Oak Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, has voiced the club’s ambition to see both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Asare became the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper after making his debut in March 2025 and featured in all of Ghana’s World Cup qualifying matches. However, the former Great Olympics shot-stopper has struggled for minutes since returning from an injury sustained during an international friendly against South Korea in November 2025.
In Asare’s absence, Solomon Agbetsi has impressed between the posts for the Phobians. The former Dreams FC goalkeeper made his Hearts of Oak debut against Swedru All Blacks on November 15 and has retained his spot since, delivering a series of assured performances.
Despite Asare’s limited game time, Opare Addo believes both goalkeepers have done enough to merit a call-up to the Black Stars’ World Cup squad.
“We want both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi for the World Cup; Asare has already cemented his place, and Agbetsi has proven his case,” he told Asempa FM.
Asare will be hoping to reclaim his starting spot when Hearts of Oak travel to face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 clash at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.
