Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has vowed to address the issues affecting the Black Stars following their disappointing campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
On Monday, Ghana fell 2-1 to Niger in their final Group F match, capping off a campaign in which the Black Stars failed to win a single match, finishing with only 3 points from six games. This poor performance means Ghana has missed out on qualification for the 2025 AFCON, which will be held in Morocco.
In the wake of the team’s failure, Okraku expressed his deep disappointment, acknowledging the sharp decline in the Black Stars’ performance since their high point in March 2022. He reassured Ghanaians of the GFA’s commitment to reversing the team’s fortunes and restoring the Black Stars to their former glory.
“From the highest heights of world football on the 29th of March 2022 to the lowest ebb of AFCON qualifying matches. My heart bleeds. Definitely, this is not what we want or what we bargained for. At this point, only cool heads can win, and we as leaders of our sport, will stay together, be honest with ourselves, and fix this problem,” Okraku stated.
“The road to full recovery after normalization is definitely bumpy and rough, but our collective efforts and patience will win, and Ghana, our beloved country, will win. As a Black Stars fan and as the leader, I share in your pain and in our pain. We will rise from this temporary setback. It shall be well,” he added.
The GFA’s Executive Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the future of Ghana football and determine the next steps for the Black Stars as they look to rebuild and move forward from this setback.
