Karim Zito, the coach of Dreams FC, has silenced his critics by guiding the FA Cup champions to the semifinals of the CAF Confederations Cup, showcasing his ability to excel independently of his association with Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku.
Following the team’s impressive qualification, Zito expresses his frustration at the lack of recognition he has received despite his accomplishments. “For somebody who has gone to win the AFCON gold, for 30 good years we couldn’t do it, and most of you criticized me that why was I given the job? Kurt, Kurt, fine, at the end of the day, whether Kurt or no Kurt, I have been able to prove myself,” he asserts in an interview with Peace FM.
Despite the lack of acknowledgment, Zito remains focused on his coaching duties, emphasizing that his primary goal is to excel in his role. “The small reward you will give to me, do you know why my son asked me when I brought home something, he said this is for what, and I said I don’t know… So I don’t care if they give it or not, my job is to coach and do well,” he adds.
Dreams FC’s qualification to the semifinals came after a remarkable comeback against Stade Malien, securing a 2-1 win in Bamako followed by a draw in Kumasi, highlighting the team’s resilience and Zito’s leadership prowess.
