Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, expressed his concern and addressed a recent issue involving Osman Bukari, who plays for Red Star Belgrade.
In the second group game against Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Bukari made a regrettable back pass that led to Egypt’s equalizer.
Hughton, understanding the emotional nature of football, assured that he had spoken to Bukari, emphasizing that the recent mishap doesn’t reflect the player’s overall quality. He highlighted Bukari as both a great player and an exceptional individual, acknowledging the ups and downs inherent in the sport.
Reflecting on Ghana’s challenging start in the tournament, they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in their opener due to a late goal from a mistake by Mohammed Salisu. The second game against Egypt saw two mistakes leading to the opponents’ equalizers, despite Mohammed Kudus’s remarkable goals. The match concluded in a 2-2 draw.
With just one point from two games, Ghana currently sits in third place in Group B. To secure a spot in the round of 16, the Black Stars must win their final group match against Mozambique.
Hughton’s focus on addressing individual mistakes and the emotional aspect of the game reflects his commitment to rallying the team for a crucial victory.
The coach’s belief in Bukari’s overall excellence suggests a strategic approach to motivate and instill confidence in the players as they strive to progress in the tournament.
