Angola extended its winning streak in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers by securing a second consecutive victory, defeating Sudan 2-1 in Luanda.
This result follows their impressive 1-0 win over Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium, giving Angola a perfect start to the campaign.
Veteran striker Mabululu opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 51st minute, only for Sudan to respond quickly through Mustafa Karshom’s equalizer in the 55th minute. However, Rayo Vallecano forward Randy Nteka sealed the win for Angola in the 82nd minute with a deflected strike, ensuring all three points for the home side.
The loss marks Sudan’s first competitive defeat of 2024 and sets the stage for a crucial double-header against Ghana in October. Sudan currently sits second in Group F with three points, while Ghana is third with just one point after two games.
The Sudanese team is led by former Black Stars player and coach James Kwasi Appiah, adding extra intrigue to their upcoming matches against his former side.
Earlier in the day, Ghana’s Black Stars were held to a surprising 1-1 draw by Niger at a neutral venue in Morocco. Ghana’s defender Alidu Seidu scored his debut goal for the national team, but the result leaves Ghana searching for their first win in the qualifiers.
At the end of the group stage, the top two teams will progress to the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
