Black Queens forward Doris Boaduwaa has thrown her support behind Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew after the experienced striker came under criticism following Ghana’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew faced scrutiny from some supporters after a difficult outing in Ghana’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto. The Leicester City forward struggled to influence proceedings and was substituted shortly before Caleb Yirenkyi scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to hand the Black Stars all three points.
In the aftermath of the match, sections of the Ghanaian football community took to social media to question Ayew’s performance, with some fans calling for the captain to be dropped from the starting lineup ahead of Ghana’s crucial Group L encounter against England.
However, Boaduwaa has moved to publicly back the Black Stars skipper, urging him to remain focused and continue leading the team despite the criticism.
The Black Queens attacker, who understands the pressures that come with representing Ghana on the international stage, shared an emotional message on Instagram, praising Ayew’s dedication, leadership and resilience.
“Dear Jordan Ayew, keep your head up. Every great player faces difficult moments, but setbacks do not define your journey. You have carried the hopes of many, represented your nation with pride, and inspired countless young footballers through your dedication and hard work,” she wrote.
Boaduwaa also reminded the Ghana captain that true champions are defined by how they respond to adversity rather than by moments of success alone.
“Remember that champions are not measured only by victories but by how they respond to challenges. Stay focused, keep believing, and continue giving your best. Your experience, leadership, and resilience are valuable, and brighter moments are still ahead.
‘Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.’ — Isaiah 40:31.
Ghana believes in you. Keep fighting, keep leading, and keep shining.”
Her message has been widely welcomed by fans who believe Ayew still has a vital role to play as Ghana continue their World Cup campaign.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to a blockbuster Group L showdown against England in Boston on June 23. A positive result against the Three Lions could move Ghana closer to securing a place in the Round of 32.
With expectations growing and pressure mounting, the Black Stars will be hoping their experienced leaders, including captain Jordan Ayew, can rise to the occasion and help guide the team through the next phase of the tournament.
As Ghana prepare for one of their biggest matches in recent years, Boaduwaa’s public show of support serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and belief both on and off the pitch.
