Black Stars midfielder Kwesi Sibo has praised the tactical approach set by the technical team, insisting that Ghana’s strict adherence to the game plan was the decisive factor in their goalless draw against England.
Ghana secured a valuable point in their second Group L fixture after grinding out a disciplined 0-0 result against the star-studded Three Lions. The outcome extends the Black Stars’ unbeaten run in their second group-stage matches at the FIFA World Cup and strengthens their position in the race for a place in the Round of 32.
Operating in midfield alongside a returning Thomas Partey, Sibo delivered a tireless and highly disciplined performance, breaking up England’s transitions and shielding the back four with consistent defensive work.
Reflecting on the tactical battle, the Real Oviedo midfielder expressed satisfaction with how Ghana executed their instructions under intense pressure.
“I think we did our best to get the results we were hoping for,” Sibo said. “It was the plan of the coach and we followed the plan.”
Ghana’s compact structure effectively limited the influence of England’s attacking options, including Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, and Noni Madueke. The Three Lions were forced into sideways possession for long spells, struggling to penetrate Ghana’s organised defensive block.
By maintaining their shape and refusing to lose structure, the Black Stars frustrated England throughout the encounter.
With four points from two matches, Ghana now turn their attention to their final Group L fixture, knowing qualification for the knockout stage remains firmly in their own hands.
