Ghana legend has expressed belief that the Black Stars possess the necessary quality to perform strongly at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, though he admits that inexperience within the squad could be a key concern.
The tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside , , and .
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Gyan—who also serves as Brand Ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football—said the squad has enough quality but may be tested by a lack of World Cup experience among some players.
“We have the tools. We have young players coming up. The experience is a bit dicey. As somebody who has been in the game, we will do everything, we will give our support,” he said.
Ghana is currently in camp in as preparations continue ahead of a friendly against next month. Thirteen players are already in camp, including Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jordan Ayew, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Elisha Owusu, Gideon Mensah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku, Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Solomon Agbasi, and Alidu Seidu.
Reports indicate the players trained at Dragon Park on Monday, while the remaining members of the 28-man provisional squad are expected to join camp.
Coach has already named his provisional squad, with final selection expected ahead of the World Cup deadline.
The Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 at , before facing England on June 23 at . Their final group match will be played against Croatia on June 27 at .
Ghana will be aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since their historic 2010 quarter-final run, having suffered early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions.
