Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC have officially opened a formal probe into allegations of a bribery attempt involving members of their squad ahead of their final Ghana Premier League fixture against Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.
According to reports that surfaced prior to the match, an unidentified individual allegedly attempted to influence players in the build-up to the decisive encounter. The matter is said to have been internally reported by defender Patrick Asidu, who escalated the concern to club management.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the club confirmed that its Board and Management had met with both players and technical staff a day earlier to assess concerns surrounding the team’s inconsistent performances during the 2025/26 season.
The discussions also addressed the bribery allegations, which emerged shortly before the final league game.
The club has since confirmed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the facts behind the claims, stressing its commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within the team.
Management also praised Asidu for what it described as professionalism, noting that he acted promptly by reporting the issue through the appropriate internal channels.
“Asante Kotoko treats issues of this nature with the utmost seriousness,” the statement emphasized, adding that any individual found responsible will face disciplinary action.
The Kumasi-based side reiterated its dedication to accountability and high professional standards as it looks to restore stability after a challenging campaign.
On the pitch, Kotoko’s struggles continued as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All Blacks in the same fixture that followed the controversy.
