VfL Wolfsburg have officially announced the departure of Egypt international Omar Marmoush next summer after failing to reach an agreement to renew his contract.

The Egypt international had joined Wolfsburg in 2017 from Wadi Degla, but spent the majority of his spell at the reserve team or on loan spells at FC St. Pauli and VfB Stuttgart.

Impressing with Stuttgart, Marmoush started to feature regularly for the Wolves this season, making over 28 appearances for the club, including 16 starts, in which he scored six goals.

His performances earned him a nomination for the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for March and interest from several clubs.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Wolfsburg tried to tie Marmoush down to a new contract, but failed to reach an agreement, according to sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.

“Both sides exchanged their ideas in open and honest discussions. No agreement could be reached during these talks,” Schindzielorz told the club’s official website.

“We would like to thank him for his commitment to the Wolfsburg jersey and wish Omar all the best for his future career,” he added.

The news comes just a day after Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Omar Marmoush will join Eintracht Frankfurt as a free signing next summer.

Meanwhile, Marmoush commented on the departure saying: “I had a good time with Wolfsburg and I would like to thank those in charge for giving me the opportunity to keep developing with the two loans.

“For me, however, it is now time to take another step. I will give everything until the end of the season to achieve our goals together with the team,” he added.

The move to Frankfurt would see Marmoush reunite with former manager Oliver Glasner, who had handed the Egyptian his Bundesliga debut during their time together at Wolfsburg.

Frankfurt currently sit sixth on the Bundesliga table, six points away from the Champions League spots, and would aim to finish in a European spot this season.
