Amanda Clinton, a failed presidential aspirant for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced that she will not be participating in the upcoming elections.
As the only female candidate in the presidential elections held in October 2019, the renowned lawyer failed to amass any votes while Kurt Okraku emerged as the winner.
During an interview, Amanda stated that she has no intentions of being involved in this year’s GFA presidential contest.
“I have learned my lessons from the last time round,” she told Accra-based Original FM. “No, I don’t think I’m ready to run this year. I am currently focused on doing grassroots work.”
Amanda Clinton hinted that she might consider contesting for the position in the next four or eight years.
“I might be available to run again in the next four or eight years,” she said.
In the 2019 elections, Kurt Okraku secured 44 votes in the first round, with former FA Vice President George Afriyie receiving 40 votes and Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah amassing 27 votes.
Since Okraku fell two votes short of the required 50% plus one, a second round of voting was conducted. In this round, Okraku obtained 59 votes while George Afriyie received 43 votes before withdrawing from the mandated third round.
As the sole candidate in the third round, Okraku secured the necessary 50% plus one, with a total of 93 votes.
Kurt Okraku’s first term as president will come to an end in October later this year.
