Asamankese-based Young Kotoko emerged as the victors in the Tariq Lamptey Foundation Charity Tournament, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Nana Kodie FC at the Asamankese Methodist Park.

The tournament, organized by Tariq Lamptey, the talented 22-year-old player from Brighton and Hove Albion, aimed to give back to young footballers and students in Anum, Asamankese.

The exhibition match consisted of two 20-minute halves, and it was Young Kotoko’s captain, Prince Atsu, who sealed the win with a remarkable long-range strike that beat Kodie FC’s goalkeeper, Derek Asiedu.

Prince Atsu was honored as the best player of the match and was presented with a pair of boots by Lamptey himself. Tariq Lamptey, accompanied by his brother, parents, and Anumhene Barfor Kofi Debrah I, attended the match and showed his support for the teams.

In a post-event interview, Lamptey expressed his delight with the teams’ performance and conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity to support them as a professional footballer. He distributed prizes to the participating teams and two schools, Freeman Methodist School and Wesley Methodist School. The prizes included Brighton’s 2023/2024 jerseys and football boots donated by the club and Lamptey’s teammates.

“I am extremely happy, and the level of play was impressive. I appreciate the opportunity and the warm reception. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of many such initiatives,” Lamptey expressed.

He encouraged the young participants to continue working hard both in school and on the football pitch to pursue their dreams in the future. Lamptey also extended his gratitude to his friends, family, and teammates for their contributions, which played a vital role in the success of the event.
