Sampson Eduku reveals what caused Tamale City’s demotion to Division One

Sampson Eduku, the former striker of Tamale City, has shed light on the factors that led to the club’s relegation to Division One.

Tamale City endured a single season in the top flight before being demoted to the second tier last season.

Despite scoring 14 goals during the campaign, Eduku’s efforts were insufficient to keep his team in the BetPawa Premier League.

Speaking to Radio Gold Sports, Sampson Eduku expressed his sentiments. “I did my best, and I wish I could have scored more goals. However, I am grateful to God for whatever I encountered. I gave my all to secure a good position for my team, to help them remain in the league. But later on, things did not go well for us.”

“Traveling from far distances was a challenge. Apart from Kotoko in Kumasi, all the other teams were far away. Traveling from Tamale to Bibiani, Samreboi, you can see that the journey is too long.”

“At times, we had mid-week matches, playing on Sunday and then Wednesday. When we arrived at those far locations, the players were also exhausted. Fatigue was a significant factor that hindered our performance because you can’t play well when you’re tired.”

“It was a difficult situation. We did our best to help the team. If you ask about the number of goals I scored, it was 14. I was third on the top scorer’s chart. But the team’s position was nowhere to be found. It’s truly disheartening,” shared Sampson Eduku with Radio Gold Sports.

Sampson Eduku has previously played for Elmina Sharks, Sekondi Hasaacas, Samartex, Karela United, and Guinea club Club Industrielle de Kamasar.

Tamale City finished 16th last season with 42 points from 34 games.
