”I will not be jobless if I leave Asante Kotoko” – Coach Ogum

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, has responded to critics, affirming his capabilities to secure another coaching job should he depart from the club.

Amidst pressure stemming from Asante Kotoko’s sluggish start in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Ogum has faced scrutiny for the team’s recent performance, which includes four losses out of five league games.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered defeats, including a 3-2 loss at home to Accra Lions and a 1-0 loss to Kpando Heart of Lions, raising concerns among fans and pundits.

Addressing the criticism, Ogum expressed confidence in his coaching abilities, stating that he remains a sought-after coach by clubs both locally and internationally.

“If I leave Kotoko next season, I can get a job locally and internationally. In fact, before I came to Kotoko, I was going abroad, I had a job I was going, but the great king (Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) told me not to go and I should come and do the job,” he remarked during an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Highlighting his versatility, Ogum noted that he possesses the credentials to secure coaching roles globally, emphasizing his readiness to explore opportunities beyond football if he chooses to step away from coaching.

“Locally, if I don’t get a job, I will get a coaching job internationally and there is no way I will never get a job locally. Let’s even put football aside, if I decide not to coach again, don’t I have the lecture theatre to go and work there?”

Despite the team’s recent challenges, Asante Kotoko is set to host Nations FC in the Matchday 23 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled at 20:00 GMT.
