Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare is confident that the club will break the tradition of Hearts of Oak winning every major trophy first in Ghana.
The two teams are set to clash in the first Democracy Cup match on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium. This game will celebrate 30 years of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic.
At a press conference held at Parliament House on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Asare expressed his belief that the Porcupine Warriors will overcome the Phobians. “The narrative of Hearts of Oak winning maiden trophies is going to change tomorrow because it’s a new era,” Asare declared with optimism.
Prior to the main fixture, a mini-friendly will feature former Black Stars players facing off against Parliamentarians. This prelude to the Democracy Cup match will kick off at 1 p.m., with the Hearts of Oak versus Asante Kotoko game scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The winner of the Hearts of Oak versus Asante Kotoko match will earn the opportunity to represent Ghana in a friendly against DC United in Washington.
