Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu relegated with Leicester City after narrow defeat to Liverpool

Leicester City’s return to the Championship has been confirmed following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, sealing a disappointing end to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The loss marks a major blow for Ghanaian duo Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, whose hopes of securing top-flight stability have been dashed.

A 76th-minute strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold proved the difference, keeping Liverpool in the title race while condemning Leicester to relegation just one season after earning promotion.

Fatawu, 21, who was instrumental in Leicester’s promotion last year, was limited to just 11 appearances this season due to injury, contributing two assists before being sidelined. He is expected to return in August 2025.

Ayew, signed from Crystal Palace for €5.9 million last summer, scored four goals in 24 appearances but was an unused substitute against Liverpool. The experienced forward, under contract until 2026, is expected to play a crucial role in Leicester’s attempt to bounce back next season.

Despite the setback, both players remain key figures for the club and could be central to a strong promotion push in the 2025/26 campaign.
