Asante Kotoko has chosen towering defender samba o’niel as the new captain of the club for the upcoming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The decision was made as part of a leadership reshuffle, with the intention of bringing in new ideas and motivation to the squad as they prepare for a fresh campaign with increased determination.
O’niel will have the support of henry ansu, who has been appointed as the first assistant captain, and lord amoah, who will serve as the second assistant. The group replaces a leadership core that consisted of frederick asare, justice blay, and richard boadu—all of whom left the club recently.
With the updated leadership structure, kotoko are relying on the group to promote team cohesion, enforce discipline, and motivate exceptional performances in both domestic competitions and continental tournaments.
The giants from Kumasi, a city in Ghana, will kick off their season with an exciting toyota cup match against the South African team Kaizer Chiefs on July 26, 2025, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
