Ghanaian midfielder Eugene Ansah had a night of mixed fortunes as FC Ashdod suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Hapoel Beer Sheva in the 2025/26 Ligat Ha’al.
The Ghanaian star pulled Ashdod level in the 16th minute, finishing confidently from a precise Karim Kimvuidi pass after Guy Mizrahi had given the visitors an early lead. The goal briefly sparked optimism for the home side, who lined up in a 5-4-1 formation.
However, Ansah’s involvement at the other end proved costly. Ten minutes after the restart, a misstep in build-up play allowed Kings Kangwa to strike the winner, turning what began as a promising night into disappointment.
Despite creating three clear-cut opportunities, Ashdod struggled to impose themselves against a well-organised Beer Sheva side, who controlled possession and exploited their attacking depth. Late substitutions from coach Ran Kozuch failed to alter the outcome, leaving Ashdod to rue individual mistakes in a match defined by small margins.
Ansah continues to lead Ashdod’s attack, now with 8 goals and 5 assists in 21 league appearances this season. The team will next face a stern test on the road against title-chasing Maccabi Tel Aviv on Saturday, February 21.
