Former Ghana international Hamza Mohammed has urged the Black Stars technical team to make Abdul Fatawu Issahaku the cornerstone of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the young winger as a rare talent capable of transforming the national team.
The ex-midfielder believes Ghana must centre its long-term strategy around the 21-year-old attacker, insisting Issahaku possesses the quality, confidence and attacking influence needed to lead the Black Stars on football’s biggest stage.
Speaking to 3 Sports, Mohammed praised the winger’s rapid development and highlighted his importance to the future of the national team.
“He is a great talent. We are privileged to have such a player in the Black Stars,” Mohammed said.
“He is a young guy doing very well for himself and for the country.”
Mohammed further stressed that maintaining full fitness will be crucial for Issahaku ahead of the global tournament, adding that Ghana should rely heavily on the winger if he remains injury-free.
“We just pray he stays injury-free. I believe he should be the one we look up to for the World Cup we are going to.”
Issahaku’s rising reputation follows an outstanding 2025/26 season in the English Championship with Leicester City, where he has rediscovered top form after recovering from a serious ACL injury. The Ghana international has contributed eight goals and seven assists in 33 appearances, emerging as one of the club’s most influential attacking players.
His performances have strengthened calls for the Black Stars to place greater responsibility on the former Dreams FC man as Ghana continues its build-up toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
