Former Ghana national football team head coach Chris Hughton has disclosed that he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer last year and has since undergone successful surgery.

The experienced tactician shared that the diagnosis came during what was already a demanding period in his professional life. However, he has since received treatment and is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery in 2025.

His revelation has been met with an outpouring of support from the football community, with many praising his courage in speaking openly about his health battle.Hughton, widely respected for his calm demeanor and tactical discipline, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in football, both as a player and a manager.

As a player, he was part of the successful Tottenham Hotspur side of the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning major honours including the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.Transitioning into coaching, Hughton built a reputation as a steady and effective manager across several clubs in England. He notably managed Newcastle United, where he guided the club back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title during the 2009–10 season.

His achievement there remains one of the highlights of his managerial career. He went on to manage Birmingham City, leading them to promotion to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs. Hughton’s ability to organize teams defensively and extract consistent performances earned him further opportunities at top clubs.

At Norwich City, he secured Premier League survival, stabilizing the club during a competitive period. However, it was his tenure at Brighton & Hove Albion that arguably defined his managerial legacy. He led Brighton to promotion to the Premier League in 2017, ending a 34-year absence from the top flight.

Under his guidance, the club not only maintained its Premier League status but also reached the FA Cup final in 2019—an extraordinary achievement in the club’s modern history.Hughton also had a stint with Nottingham Forest, further adding to his wealth of experience in English football management. On the international stage, Hughton took charge of the Black Stars, bringing his vast experience to the Ghanaian national team.

Although his tenure had mixed results, his appointment reflected Ghana’s ambition to leverage experienced leadership at the highest level.Beyond results and trophies, Hughton is widely admired for his professionalism, integrity, and leadership qualities. His influence extends beyond tactics, having mentored and developed numerous players throughout his career.

His recent revelation about battling prostate cancer adds a deeply personal chapter to his story—one that highlights resilience beyond the football pitch. By speaking out, Hughton not only raises awareness about the condition but also encourages early detection and treatment.
