Former Ghana national football team head coach Chris Hughton has disclosed that he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer last year and has since undergone successful surgery.
The experienced tactician shared that the diagnosis came during what was already a demanding period in his professional life. However, he has since received treatment and is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery in 2025.
His revelation has been met with an outpouring of support from the football community, with many praising his courage in speaking openly about his health battle.Hughton, widely respected for his calm demeanor and tactical discipline, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in football, both as a player and a manager.
As a player, he was part of the successful Tottenham Hotspur side of the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning major honours including the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.Transitioning into coaching, Hughton built a reputation as a steady and effective manager across several clubs in England. He notably managed Newcastle United, where he guided the club back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title during the 2009–10 season.
His achievement there remains one of the highlights of his managerial career.He went on to manage Birmingham City, leading them to promotion to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs. Hughton’s ability to organize teams defensively and extract consistent performances earned him further opportunities at top clubs.
At Norwich City, he secured Premier League survival, stabilizing the club during a competitive period.
