Frederick Acheampong, former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, has clarified that AshantiGold Sporting Club no longer exists following its demotion to Division Two.
He explained that after the club’s relegation, efforts were made by some stakeholders to revive it, but those discussions were overshadowed by internal disagreements rather than a clear focus on football development.
“After the club’s demotion to Division 2, leaders consulted on a possible comeback, but they were more interested in politics — fighting FC AshantiGold ’04 over the name while the latter focused on football and complied with GFA directives,” he stated.
His remarks suggest that while one faction was engaged in disputes over ownership and identity, another group concentrated on meeting regulatory requirements and continuing football activities.
The former GFA official’s statement brings clarity to the status of the once-prominent club, indicating that internal divisions played a key role in its collapse.
