Ghanaian midfielder Alfred Duncan and German-born Ecuadorian international of Ghanaian descent John Yeboah played decisive roles as Venezia FC secured promotion back to the Serie A for the 2026/27 season following a dramatic 2-2 draw away to Spezia Calcio.

In a high-stakes encounter that carried the weight of an entire season, Venezia demonstrated resilience, composure, and tactical discipline to earn the crucial point needed to confirm their return to Italy’s top-flight football. The result sparked scenes of celebration among players, technical staff, and supporters, marking a significant milestone in the club’s recent history.

The match itself lived up to expectations, with both sides showing urgency and attacking intent from the opening whistle. Spezia, playing in front of their home fans, pushed aggressively in search of victory, but Venezia responded with equal determination. The contest evolved into a fiercely competitive battle, with momentum swinging from end to end.

At the heart of Venezia’s performance was the experience and leadership of Alfred Duncan. The Ghanaian midfielder controlled the tempo in the middle of the park, breaking up opposition attacks while also initiating forward movements. His positional awareness and ability to dictate play under pressure proved invaluable, especially during crucial phases when Spezia threatened to take full control of the game.

Alongside him, John Yeboah brought energy, creativity, and attacking flair to Venezia’s forward line. His pace and technical ability stretched the Spezia defense, creating spaces and opportunities that ultimately contributed to Venezia’s goals. Yeboah’s presence ensured that Venezia remained a constant threat on the counterattack, preventing the home side from committing too many players forward.

The 2-2 draw, though tense, was ultimately sufficient to seal promotion, highlighting Venezia’s consistency over the course of the campaign. Their journey back to Serie A has been defined by determination, strategic squad building, and key individual performances—none more significant than those delivered by Duncan and Yeboah.

For Alfred Duncan, the promotion adds another important chapter to a career that has seen him feature prominently in Italian football. His leadership qualities and wealth of experience have been instrumental in guiding Venezia through the challenges of a demanding Serie B season.

John Yeboah, on the other hand, continues to enhance his growing reputation on the international stage. Eligible through his Ghanaian heritage but representing Ecuador, his contributions to Venezia’s success underline his versatility and importance as a modern attacking player.

Venezia’s return to Serie A not only restores the club to elite competition but also sets the stage for new ambitions. The focus will now shift to strengthening the squad and preparing to compete against Italy’s top clubs, where survival and consolidation will be the immediate priorities.

For Ghanaian football enthusiasts, the achievement of Duncan—and the Ghanaian-linked success of Yeboah—serves as a source of pride, reflecting the growing influence of players with Ghanaian roots across Europe’s top leagues.
