Black Stars goalkeeping coach Daniel Gaspar has expressed confidence in Ghana’s goalkeepers ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting they are capable of delivering strong performances on the biggest stage.
Speaking to Kooora, the experienced trainer said Ghana possess goalkeepers with the quality to keep clean sheets in group-stage matches against Croatia and England, but stressed that success will depend on the entire team’s defensive discipline.
“Yes, we have that. But keeping a clean sheet is never the goalkeeper’s sole responsibility. Defensive organisation starts with the entire team’s mentality and discipline,” Gaspar said when asked about Ghana’s chances of shutting out top opposition.
He further highlighted the mental and leadership demands placed on goalkeepers at World Cup level.
“In the World Cup, a goalkeeper must possess courage, emotional control, leadership, communication skills, and the ability to make crucial decisions under pressure. We have great faith in our goalkeepers. Keeping a clean sheet is a collective effort,” he added.
Ghana will compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia as one of 48 participating nations.
While head coach Carlos Queiroz is yet to name his final squad, Benjamin Asare and Lawrence Ati-Zigi are widely expected to lead the Black Stars’ goalkeeping department for the tournament.
