I’m Still Young – Paul Reverson reacts to World Cup squad exclusion

Ghanaian goalkeeper Paul Reverson has expressed disappointment after missing out on the Black Stars’ final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, though he remains hopeful about his future with the national team.

The 20-year-old Ajax prospect was included in Ghana’s 28-man provisional squad but was not selected in the final team for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Despite the setback, Reverson says he understands the decision and remains focused on long-term progress.

“I wish I was in the Black Stars team for the World Cup, but now is not the time. I’m still very young,” he said.

Reverson, who developed through the youth systems of Zeeburgia and AFC before joining Ajax Amsterdam, currently plays for Jong Ajax in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

Although eligible to represent the Netherlands, he committed his international future to Ghana. That decision earned him appearances at U-20 level in 2025, where his performances attracted attention from senior national team selectors.

He later received a maiden senior call-up for Ghana’s international friendly against Mexico in May, marking an important milestone in his international career.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L of the World Cup alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars begin their campaign on June 17 against Panama at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and concluding their group stage against Croatia on June 27.
