Former Black Stars striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom has revealed his ambition to play in the Ghana Premier League before hanging up his boots, with Asante Kotoko emerging as his preferred destination.
The experienced forward, who hails from the Ashanti Region, says representing the Porcupine Warriors would be a special moment in his career because of his connection to the club and the Ashanti Kingdom.
“I will be willing to play in the Ghana Premier League before I retire. I will either play for Asante Kotoko or Medeama SC. I would love to play for Kotoko because I’m an Asante boy and would be happy to play for a club that belongs to Otumfuo. I would also play for Medeama because I love their style of play,” Boakye Yiadom told Andydotcom.
Boakye Yiadom’s comments have reignited discussions among Asante Kotoko supporters, who have long admired the possibility of seeing an experienced Black Stars forward wear the famous red jersey.
The striker has enjoyed a successful career abroad, representing clubs in Italy, Austria, Serbia, Spain, Poland and other European leagues. He started his professional career with Ghanaian side Bechem United before making a move to Europe.
He later joined Genoa CFC and had a memorable spell with Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored more than 40 goals across competitions and helped the club win domestic titles.
Boakye also featured for FK Crvena zvezda, where he became a key attacking figure, scoring 39 goals in 48 appearances during his time with the Serbian giants.
At international level, the powerful striker earned 19 caps for Ghana’s Black Stars and scored 7 goals, representing the country in major competitions and earning recognition for his finishing ability and physical presence.
Despite spending most of his career outside Ghana, Boakye Yiadom has maintained a strong connection with Ghanaian football. A potential move to Asante Kotoko would see him fulfil a long-standing ambition of playing for one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.
For Kotoko supporters, the idea of a former Black Stars striker leading the attack at Baba Yara Stadium remains an exciting possibility as the player approaches the later stages of his career.
