Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has revealed his ambition to manage a national team in the future, saying coaching at the FIFA World Cup would represent the highest achievement of his career.
The 55-year-old South African tactician believes every coach dreams of leading a country and has expressed his desire to eventually take charge of either Ghana’s Black Stars or South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Tinkler said:
“I think the pinnacle for every coach is to coach a national team. That is where I would like to see myself.”
The former South African international explained that guiding a team at football’s biggest tournament is the ultimate goal for any manager.
“Be it the South African national team, be it the Ghanaian national team, because you want to be on the biggest stage in the world, which is the World Cup.”
When asked if he would accept an offer from either Ghana or South Africa should the opportunity arise, Tinkler gave a clear response.
“So when the call comes, you answer?”
“Yes,” he replied.
Tinkler, who was appointed head coach of Asante Kotoko earlier this year, is currently focused on preparing the Porcupine Warriors for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The experienced coach has previously managed clubs in South Africa, Mozambique and other African leagues, and now hopes to add a national team role to his coaching journey in the future.
