Medeama SC will aim to extend their unbeaten run in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League when they welcome Heart of Lions to the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday.
The defending champions have made an encouraging start to their title defence after recovering from two successive draws in their opening matches to record three consecutive victories.
Their latest success came last weekend when they secured a narrow 1-0 away win over newly promoted Debibi United FC, maintaining their position at the top of the league standings.
Medeama have collected 11 points from five matches, scoring nine goals and conceding four. Their attacking output is currently the highest in the league, while their defensive record has also contributed to their impressive start.
The Tarkwa-based club have won both of their home matches this season and will be determined to preserve that record against a Heart of Lions side arriving with growing confidence.
The visitors have recorded consecutive league victories for the first time since November 2025, raising expectations ahead of their trip to face the reigning champions.
Heart of Lions secured an entertaining 3-2 victory over FC Ashanti Gold’04 last Sunday, adding to the momentum generated by their recent performances.
The Kpando-based outfit have registered two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five league matches. Their eight points place them seventh on the table, and a positive result against Medeama would strengthen their position in the early stages of the campaign.
Heart of Lions have also made progress in their away performances. Their previous road fixture produced a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Young Apostles, bringing an end to a 17-match winless streak away from home in the league.
That difficult run consisted of seven draws and 10 defeats, making the victory a significant boost for the team as they prepare for another challenging away assignment.
However, Medeama will draw confidence from their home advantage as they seek to continue their strong start to the season. The champions will also be eager to improve their recent head-to-head record against Heart of Lions in Tarkwa.
In their last three Ghana Premier League meetings at the venue since the 2023/24 season, Medeama have recorded one victory, one draw and one defeat against the Kpando side.
With Medeama seeking to protect their position at the top and Heart of Lions hoping to build on their recent victories, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a competitive test for both teams.
