Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has admitted that his side faces a difficult challenge when they travel to face FC Samartex in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The league leaders will make the trip to the Nsenkyire Sports Arena for a Matchday 7 encounter against a Samartex side that has made a strong start to the campaign and currently sits third on the table with 11 points.
Medeama remain the only unbeaten team in the league after six matches, having picked up 14 points from four wins and two draws. Despite their impressive form, Tanko believes the Yellow and Mauves will face a stern test against a well-organised Samartex side.
“Another tough game. Like you said, we have played just six games and we haven’t lost a game. So, definitely, we are one of the teams that every team would like to beat,” Tanko said.
“We are preparing very well. We know the venue we are going to is very tough to play at. They have a very good team with a very good coach behind them.”
Medeama’s recent record at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena highlights the difficulty of the fixture, with the club failing to secure a victory in their last four visits, recording two defeats and two draws.
The rivalry has also produced closely contested encounters in recent seasons, with four of the last eight league meetings ending in draws. Both matches between the two teams last season finished level, while their recent pre-season meeting in the Nsenkyire Cup was decided by a penalty shootout.
Tanko, however, remains focused on maintaining Medeama’s strong start and insists the team will continue to approach each match with the right mentality.
The league leaders will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run and strengthen their position at the top of the Ghana Premier League standings with a positive result in Samartex.
