Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh produced a match-winning performance on Sunday, scoring twice to lead FC Aarau to a 2-0 victory over FC Zurich and secure qualification for the Round of 16 of the Swiss Cup.
The 25-year-old proved decisive in the second half, breaking the deadlock before adding a second goal to seal an impressive victory for the home side.
After a tightly contested first half ended without a goal, Barnieh gave Aarau the breakthrough in the 65th minute, putting his team in front and shifting the momentum in their favour.
The former Hearts of Oak attacker struck again in the 80th minute, doubling Aarau’s advantage and leaving FC Zurich with little time to respond.
His brace ensured Aarau progressed to the next stage of the competition while bringing Zurich’s cup campaign to an end.
Barnieh’s performance further highlighted his growing influence in the team’s attacking department. He has now registered three goals and two assists this season, demonstrating his ability to contribute both as a scorer and a creator.
The Ghanaian forward previously featured for Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s leading clubs, before continuing his professional career in European football.
His latest display will provide a significant boost to Aarau as they prepare for the Round of 16, with the forward emerging as an important attacking option.
Barnieh will now be looking to build on his impressive performance and maintain his scoring form as FC Aarau continue their campaign in Switzerland.
