The closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance has forced Ghana Premier League clubs Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Dreams FC to urgently search for new home venues for their upcoming matches.
The National Sports Authority shut down the stadium to prepare it for Ghana’s possible Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This unexpected closure has disrupted the plans of the three clubs, who regularly use the facility.
Hearts of Oak, known for playing at the Accra Sports Stadium, are considering relocating their home games to either the WAFA Park in Sogakope or the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon. Accra Lions are also expected to move their home matches to the University of Ghana Stadium.
Dreams FC, whose next match is fast approaching, have yet to decide on a venue. The club is currently exploring all possible options for their upcoming top-tier matches.
This situation comes shortly after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi was banned due to technical issues, including the poor condition of its pitch. As a result, Asante Kotoko had to move their home games to the Lenclay Stadium in Obuasi.
