Amos Frimpong, former captain of Asante Kotoko, has emphasized the importance of the club appointing a permanent coach and initiating the recruitment process for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
Following the dismissal of Seydou Zerbo before the conclusion of the previous season, the Porcupine Warriors have been operating without a permanent head coach. Abdulai Abdul Gazale, the coach of their Youth team, was appointed as the interim coach for the first team to see out the remainder of the season.
Despite being crowned champions of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko finished in fourth place, accumulating 52 points from 34 matches and trailing the eventual winners, Medeama, by eight points.
Since the conclusion of the season, the Kumasi-based club has been actively searching for a new coach. However, Frimpong, who spent eight seasons at Kotoko, expressed concern over the delay in finding a permanent manager.
He highlighted the urgency of the situation, as many top-level players are already in negotiations for contracts in the upcoming season and beyond.
“Let’s appoint the coach early so he can do his own recruitment and select players who will fit into the system he prefers to play so that Asante Kotoko can win the Premier League title next season,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben TV.
